Fall of Man Depicted in Atwoods Backdrop Addresses Cowboy Essay

Fall of Man Depicted in Atwood's  Backdrop Addresses Cowboy   The sexual governmental issues of the man-lady relationship, or all the more explicitly the sexual misuse of ladies by men, is a reasonable worry in Margaret Atwood's Setting Addresses Cowboy. Although the oppressor-as-male topic is in no way, shape or form a unique wellspring of graceful motivation, Atwood's differentiation is that she sees the dangerous man-lady relationship as a representation for, indication and image of, greater things. From the vantage-purpose of female cognizance, Margaret Atwood empahsizes the scenery as being the lady, yet in addition the land and the otherworldly existence of the universe; the cowhand is both a man twisted on close to home increase (conceivably an American dependent on Atwood's solid enemy of American conclusions in her novel, Surfacing) and an emissary of mechanical advancement. The structure of the sonnet intelligently bolsters the topic of contention and government in that it is obviously isolated into two segments or camps. The initial four verses offer a depiction of you, the exemplary and gallant rancher who brutalizes existence without making new life. The viewpoint moves then from predator to prey in the last five verses as I, introduced as misled lady and misused nature, addresses her opponent. The tone or temperament of Setting Addresses Cowboy likewise experiences a change after the initial four refrains when the peruser enters the deplorable, sad experience of one who is following through on the cost of butcher and tainting. At this point in the sonnet, it appears to be purposeless to consider whether the cost ought to be paid and the allegorical man-lady pressure remains distrubingly uncertain. Regarding structure, Setting Addresses Cowboy is written in open (organization... ...esecrate, the insistently positioned expression of the climactic line in Background Addresses Cowboy, stresses again the scenery as being the lady, yet additionally the land and the otherworldly existence of the universe. As an emissary of mechanical advancement, man has submitted a sacreligious demonstration against nature and mankind and his fall typifies the fall of the profound, the authentic and the sane. In Margaret Atwood's sonnet, at that point, the pained man-lady relationship is indication and image of a more noteworthy estrangement inside mankind. Man's over a significant time span curelties to human, normal and otherworldly life are expressesed metaphoricall regarding a cattle rustler winning the West on a film set, against a scenery supporting his valor. Background Addresses Cowboy offers a dream that is both ruined and cognizant growing yet it doesn't present answers.

Four Things I Learned While Writing Crime Fiction

Four Things I Learned While Writing Crime Fiction Four Things I Learned While Writing Crime Fiction After a visit in Iraq, which made them direct security for EOD missions, gracefully runs, and whatever else the military asked of him, Zack Klika got out and set off for college at The University of Texas Dallas. He graduated in 2010 with a B.S. in Finance. It was around this time he concluded that composing was what he truly needed to do, not numbers. In this article, he discusses the four greatest suggestions he found out about composing wrongdoing fiction by working with proficient editors. My new novel, Blood On The Bridge, is around three altogether different individuals banding together to make sense of who killed a female warrior. Furthermore, much like the characters in my book, I collaborated with two stunning editors, Will Anderson, my formative editorial manager, and Mary Beth Constant, my duplicate proofreader, to get my novel fit as a fiddle. Composing a novel is no simple undertaking. I illustrated for a month and afterward composed the main draft in two, so, all in all I realized I expected to get experts included. Will had such a significant number of extraordinary remarks and proposals about my original copy that it invigorated me when the opportunity arrived to plunge back in for a revamp. Mary Beth recognized a considerable number of irregularities in my story’s course of events and generally story circular segment. Without her, the novel would have put on a show of being crude. The two of them restored my alters before the due date we had settled upon also, which caused me to feel significantly progressively positive about the Reedsy platform. Here is a portion of the exhortation I got during the composition and altering process, in regards to making an extraordinary spine chiller novel.1) Embrace the tropesThere is literally nothing amiss with feeling like your riddle or spine chiller rings like a great deal of other wrongdoing fiction. In any case, there are approaches to cause your scene to feel more unique than it truly is. The best bit of art guidance I at any point got really wasn’t identified with composing. It was given to me during a comedy class. My teacher advised the gathering to discard the initial three thoughts that flew into our heads when we strolled onto the phase to play out a scene. What's more, it generally worked. It powers your creative mind to scramble for something that wasn’t as of now there. What's more, when you’re confronted with no chance to get out, you will discover an exit plan. It’s how a great deal of journalists compose: they get themselves into trouble and afterward discover an exit plan. At the point when you're composing kind fiction, don't be hesitant to grasp the tropes There is a scene in my novel where one of the principle characters is taken out and tossed into the storage compartment of a vehicle. He awakens in the storage compartment and acknowledges he is being headed to his passing bed. Anyway, what would he be able to do when his ruffians open the storage compartment? Battle or flight? Those are two alternatives. He could likewise ask. Those were actually the main three alternatives I could consider. Afterward, when I was laying in bed attempting to rest, a fourth choice came to me: he could feign unconsciousness. What's more, I’m sure I’m by all account not the only one to ever expound on a character feigning unconsciousness in the storage compartment of a vehicle while in transit to his exacting passing bed. Be that as it may, paying little mind to how utilized of a figure of speech it will be, it was the alternative that completely fit my character best and not simply the main thing I could think of.Don’t neglect to d epend on your formative editorial manager as a hotspot for extraordinary thoughts which drives me to the following part...2) Run with your editor’s adviceSeriously. Take their thoughts, exhortation, and input and go for it. They’ve most likely read significantly more wrongdoing fiction than you ever will so they are the ideal individual to reveal to you how to make your book better.Authors will in general get limited focus while they’re chipping away at their original copy. Do whatever it takes not to be vexed if your formative manager reveals to you the person doesn’t feel like a scene works in its present state. The principle employment of that proofreader is to evaluate your work. On the off chance that they’re incredible editors, as were mine, they’ll toss out a plans to improve the scene. Consider those thoughts and use them as you see fit. The spine chiller composing exercises I learned by working experts editors I realized something was absent from my book when I submitted it to Will. I couldn’t put my finger on it, however Will thought that it was immediately: I required another distraction in my story. There wasn’t enough going on in the subsequent demonstration to support it all the way to the finish. One of the thoughts Will gave me was great and directly before my eyes the entire time. I went for it. What's more, it wound up making my story even more charming. What's more, you need to be engaged by your novel.Want to become familiar with comfortable wrongdoing fiction - and get some suggested titles while you're busy? Look at thisâ comprehensive manual for comfortable mysteries.3) Use your sensesIf you’re not engaged by your wrongdoing fiction, your peruser won’t be either. I compose puzzles and spine chillers since I have an enthusiasm to engage and I’ve consistently been engaged by a decent wrongdoing story. Recall that your spine chiller or secret is being advised to somebody, and they should be brought into your pretend world. The most ideal approach to do that is through appear, don't tell and by joining each of the five faculties into your composition: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch. After a first or second draft, I’ll experience my original copy and see which of the five faculties are deficient. Sight and sound get utilized the most in a ton of composing, which is consummately fine. Be that as it may, smell, taste, and contact can be your sleuth’s/detective’s closest companion and can represent the moment of truth a case. Did your analyst get a whiff of cologne off the killed lady found in her condo? Did he later smell that equivalent cologne while meeting a suspect? An incredible exercise I like to do is to work out a couple of ways an executioner can be gotten based off one of those three detects. It’s difficult, however that just methods your story will be all the better for it. My next re commendation will improve your story as well. The four best recommendations I learned while composing wrongdoing fiction 4) Keep your activity scenes free and free-flowingDon’t get excessively stalled in being so exact with the subtleties that your peruser can’t fill in certain spaces for themselves and submerge themselves in the story. In the event that you’re composing inside the domain of reality it might be a smart thought to keep your battles on the shorter side too, to assemble anticipation. Genuine battles are not at all like fights. Genuine battles are untidy. Genuine battles are generally wrapped up inside a couple of moments. Furthermore, genuine contenders battle grimy. Recollect that. Your contenders don’t maintain any standards. They will do whatever they need to do to win a fight. Please share your musings, encounters, or any inquiries for Zack Klika in the remarks underneath! What's more, on the off chance that you'd prefer to get familiar with questioning a spine chiller to a specialist, head here.Blood on the Bridge is accessible in soft cover and on Amazon K indle!

One of the negative consequences of long-time meth abuse is developing an addiction to the drug. Methamphetamine addicts will continue compulsive drug seeking and drug use in spite of negative consequences. This is due to changes in the brain that changes the users reward system. How Long Does Methamphetamine Stay in Your System? Tolerance and Withdrawal As with other drug addictions, meth addicts develop a tolerance to the drug, requiring higher dosages to get the same effect, and they experience withdrawal symptoms if they try to quit. National Institute on Drug Abuse research has shown that long-term meth abusers brains are changed to the point that they may find it difficult to experience any pleasure other than that provided by the drug.?? This provokes even further drug abuse. Meth Withdrawal Symptoms DepressionAnxietyFatigueIntense craving What to Expect From Meth Withdrawal Other Psychiatric Symptoms Chronic methamphetamine abusers can also experience other symptoms, including:?? AnxietyConfusionInsomniaMood disturbancesViolent behavior Psychotic Features Meth abuse can also produce a variety of psychotic features that can include paranoia, visual and auditory hallucinations, and delusions. Some chronic methamphetamine abusers report the sensation of insects creeping under the skin.?? Unfortunately, some of these psychotic symptoms can persist for months or years after the abuser quits using meth. Reoccurrence of these symptoms can be triggered by stress long after the person has stopped using. Emotion and Memory NIDA-sponsored neuroimaging studies have found that meth use alters the dopamine system associated with reduced motor speed and impaired verbal learning.?? Studies have found that meth abusers show severe damage in the region of the brain associated with emotion and memory. Methamphetamine abuse can also negatively affect non-neural brain cells called microglia, which support the brain by removing damaged neurons and defending the brain against infectious agents. But, too much microglial activity can damage healthy neurons in the brain. Imaging studies have detected double the levels of microglial cells in the brains of former methamphetamine abusers, compared with people who never used meth.?? Some Reversible, Some Not Some studies have found that some of the brain damage caused by chronic methamphetamine abuse is partially reversible. Motor and verbal memory have shown to improve after extended abstinence from methamphetamine (14 months, but not six months).?? However, other brain functions damaged by meth abuse did not recover even after 14 months, one study found. Methamphetamine use increases the risk of stroke and can lead to a higher incidence of Parkinsons disease, conditions that are irreversible. Individual Global Crises Are the Result of a Failing...

Introduction: When we solve problems we are taught to breakdown our issues into smaller components and analyze each piece separately in order to find a solution. This is a good method for problem solving, however, we must take into consideration that many problems are complex and their components intricately connected. It is essential that we put these pieces back together and analyze the problem as a whole to make sure we are not missing any critical information. In this paper I am going to explore many issues of global crises. I will argue that global crises such as environmental degradation, the diminishing of fossil fuels, food shortages, economic instability, and international terrorism are all the result of a failed global system.†¦show more content†¦Human-caused global environmental changes are the result of a rapidly growing population and our high dependencies on non-renewable resources such as fossil fuels (Vitousek, 1994). We are part of a consumerist society wh ich keeps us plugged into this dependency on cheap fossil fuels (Ahmed, 2012). Our intensive industrial and agricultural activities cause us to exploit the Earth’s resources, and we cannot continue on this path. Ahmed (2012) explains that this does not mean the end of the world, but it does mean that this is the end of a particular form of industrial civilization which is based upon the idea of unlimited growth. Diminishing Fossil Fuels: Ahmed (2012) argues that we have reached peak oil, and states that even BP’s data shows we reached a peak in 2004 followed by a few years of plateau and we are now in the beginning of a descent. Shafiee and Topal (2009) created a model for estimating the depletion of fossil fuels. With their model they have calculated that oil, coal, and gas reserves will be exhausted in approximately 35, 107 and 37 years, respectively. We are already beginning to suffer the economic consequences of the world’s declining fossil fuel reserves, with a significant increase in gas prices since the 80’s (Tepperman and Curtis,Show MoreRelatedThe Crisis Of Our Crises1592 Words   |  7 Pagesthe newfound ease of communication individuals and organizations faced; ideas and capital were spread farther, quicker, and with more ease than ever before. The Data Around Incarceration Rates And It s Correlations...

The purpose of this paper is to look into the data around incarceration rates and it’s correlations with poverty rates in two separate locations in the United States of America (USA). The key points within this paper include incarceration, poverty, and medium income. This paper will look at these different key points and investigate these inequalities by location. Empirical Question: Do areas with higher poverty rates in the United States face disproportionate incarceration rates compared to areas with lower poverty rates? This topic is interesting to me because it would then raise the issue of classism and other systemic social issues. In understanding and documenting the data on this topic, the data could then be used to promote welfare†¦show more content†¦The context from which these are being defined will also be discussed to help the reader gain a deeper understanding of these definitions and the graph which will follow the definitions. Incarceration: The incarceration data within this paper comes from the U.S. Department of Justice: Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Statistics. The data used from this source is from 2014 and was published in 2015. The data states the numbers of Prisoners under jurisdiction of state or federal correctional authorities, on December 31, in 2014. This was collected from the National Prisoner Statistics (NPS) program. NPS collects annual data from each state Department of Corrections (DOC) and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). To understand the meaning of incarceration, as it is stated within this paper, it’s important to understand jurisdiction. Jurisdiction within this paper refers to the legal authority of the state or federal correctional officials over a prisoner. Jurisdiction within this paper counts prisoners regardless of where the prisoners are being held. The data is a total between jail and prison populations. The data within this paper only includes prisoners 18 and o lder; the juvenile system is not included. The data also does not include inmates held in nonsecure privately operated community corrections facilities. Other terms important to break down to better understand the data

Impact Of Globalisation On Biodiversity Environmental Sciences Essay Free Essays

Biodiversity is the diversity in the different assortments of vegetations and zoologies in a peculiar home ground. It comprises of the entirety of cistrons, species and ecosystems in a specific topographic point. It serves as a beginning of aesthetic and economic value, is used as nutrient and related points, provides scientific information and replaces technology solutions such as inundation control and H2O pollution suspension. We will write a custom essay sample on Impact Of Globalisation On Biodiversity Environmental Sciences Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now Bio profusion therefore is rated of higher penchant to stand as a major factor for the future economic growing and thereby the overall sustainable development. Globalization is the construct where people, states, engineerings, concerns and webs are interconnected and mutualist politically, economically and socially unhampered by different clip zones doing the whole universe as a incorporate Earth. It helps in the addition of transit and communicating webs and allows cross boundary line trade and resource motions. The international concern activities and transverse national pacts and understandings are done with much easiness. The inquiry put frontward was whether globalization is a cause for the loss of biodiversity. The impression of globalizing the universe comprises of upgrading and furthering of all the sectors and domains of economic system. Peoples started basking the epicurean life styles and became attached to deluxe stuffs and pull pleasance out of it. This drastically depleted the natural resources and their comprehensiveness. Since bio diverseness is the cardinal factor comprising of both the biotic and abiotic factors in an environment, the loss of its impressiveness will drastically impact the present gait and thereby indirectly strike hard on the future coevalss to follow. STANDPOINT PROPOSITION The failure to proper recycling, inefficiency in the procedure of Restoration of the close nonextant assortments by newer birthrate techniques, over development of fossil fuels and tremendous population growing have lead to serious problems. Measures must be taken to seek for the best genteelness evidences and place home grounds that would rejuvenate the endangered species. Ethical values and morale of people must be exploited for the protection of the nonextant vegetations and zoologies. The buffer zones must be encouraged to be set up for making infinite between human intercession and original wild homes. All the intergovernmental administrations and related establishments must come together to organize and take part in meetings and seminars yearly or semi-annually to explicate programs and implement schemes to avoid the concealed catastrophes that could originate from the progressing loss of biodiversity and the rare species. The value of ecosystem balance and a sustainable economic system must be indispensable for a stable economic system. Thus a good attempt must be taken to uplift biodiversity as it contributes to both useful and non useful evidences. I take a mediocre base in the saving of bio diverseness along with globalizing the universe pull outing common benefits from both and lending to a better economic system. Thus a universe would be possible basking the facets of planetary benefits and every bit valuing the bio assets. Essay The term ‘Globalisation ‘ creates a large difference in the full facet of revolutionizing an economic system. It would bring forth a new universe where people would hold upon common evidences and come into harmoniousness to cover with originating struggles and differences with easiness. It would do the dream of uniting the Earth with a individual civilization, heritage, human rights and criterions come true. The economic systems will unify together for a common end, intent and purpose to separately lend to the overall general development of the communities. The people would come into the point of giving their best by going reciprocally accountable for each other and developing complimentary accomplishments. Effective engagement and shared leading will be displayed by each and every one being to do their portion go clear and true. There would be right usage of power and its execution by the right set of people at the right juncture. Globalisation would do the engineering to progress and turn in right proportions to all the sectors and countries in equalised sums and contribute for the well being of its beginning. The cognitive, affectional and behavioral forms of economic systems will be furnished to lend more and more to the well being of the states together as a individual unit with defined rules and etiquettes. The basic demands of self realization demands, security concerns, sociableness factors, position and self-respect counts and general morale of the future coevalss will be revised and viewed upon in a different and broader position. The cross boundary line issues and interstate affairs will be held with concerns and peace pacts and dialogues would harmonize different settlements and related districts. Surely globalizing the universe is one of the most of import factors required for instilling a necessary alteration to the economic system. Biodiversity on the other manus is one of the cardinal factors consisting the Earth to its entireness. It is the entirety of cistrons, species and ecosystems together lending to the biotic and abiotic factors of the planet. The profusion of vegetations and fauna constitutes the green factor and spreads the value of aesthetic beauty. It is the basic edifice block of the Earth and is the anchor component giving infinite for future growing and flourishing of newer strains and assortments of species. Since globalization struck the caputs of people, so did happen the extra loss of biodiversity. Peoples began to bask the gustatory sensation of comfort and foolish luxury. The age of Americanisation, Mc donalisation and computerisation paved manner to more and more relaxed methods of life and effortless entree to stuffs. It generated a tract to ready and immediate entr A ; eacute ; vitamin E to the geting of the demands and wants of greedy psyches. The corporate universe and related establishments began to work the economic system under the name of globalization. Newer coevalss demanded latest and advanced appliances to run into the competence degrees and to fulfill the demands of emerging markets and labour forces. Nanotechnology, biotechnology, biomedical technology, astronauticss, geospatial engineering, genetic sciences, fittingness and holistic nursing, exigency and catastrophe direction schemes, computing machine forensics, robotics and Fieldss like unreal intelligence have cr eated a yet different position in the whole life criterions. The strength, enormousness and leaning of interconnection made possible through globalization therefore produced a immense impact on the present being of people. Huge countries got cleared by extra sums of deforestation and replacing of the infinite with new buildings and edifices. The bar factors were suggested by seting speedy turning trees in the topographic point of the cut trees. But speedy turning trees demanded equal measures of excess H2O which was impossible to be provided in such high proportions. The typical illustration was of eucalyptus trees that required tremendous gallons of H2O beginnings for its growing. Since it was a hard move, it eventually lead to a halt to the immediate growth of trees after mass felling. The activities like excavation of fossil fuels like coal and crude oil from marine environments and the oil spills extended the custodies of worlds onto the natural home grounds of the species brooding inside the oceans. In a manner the activities disturbed the full nutrient rhythms in ocean environments. The workss that grow in the surface absorbs the contaminated H2O which harms the little fishes that depend on works ingredients for their endurance. Hence the aglow and eccentric animals that grow in the dusk zone gets harmed which once more spoilt the bigger marauders that dwell in the bathypelagic zone and the abyssal zone. An incident occurred in California where a peculiar strain of pink pelicans got wiped out within few months due to the extra sums of pesticides that was sprayed onto the rivers that was the chief home ground for the pelican population in that part. As a consequence of the toxin, the workss got infected that automatically created jobs to the fishes in that envir onment. So when the pelicans whose chief nutrient was fishes, consumed the fishes as in normal ratios, the toxin entered their organic structure excessively. Since the energy transportation occurs based on a 10 per centum jurisprudence, the measure of toxic chemicals that penetrated into the pelican organic structure besides. The chemical had a substance inside it that eliminated the cause of formation of surfacing for the eggs formed inside the pelican organic structures. As a consequence, when the eggs fell onto the land, broke due to the absence of the difficult shell about. Since neonates were non produced, the species got nonextant with the current population. The debut of alien species is yet another of import factor that lead to the utmost loss of biodiversity. The alien species are introduced for better resiliency and adaptability factors with the environment. They display greater survival capacity with their advanced organic structure accommodations and opposition capablenesss. A typical illustration was the delivery in of the population of mongooses in a peculiar small town to cut down the perturbation of serpents. After a period of clip, the mongooses wiped off the serpents but as a consequence of the complete extinction of serpents in that country, there occurred utmost generation of rats and gnawers since there was an instability in the nutrient concatenation. The terminal consequence was snake control but extra population of mice. Hence the theory is that ne’er do jobs to the natural co-existence of species as it would make other unmanageable problems in the hereafter. The International Union of Conservation of Nature ( IUCN ) listed the latest tendencies of biodiversity loss with the aid of nonliteral graphs and ratios. Harmonizing to the surveies, the consequences obtained were that 21 % of mammals, 28 % of reptilians, 37 % of fresh water fish, 70 % of workss are under serious menace. Among the 33 largest biotic deltas, about 24 are in a heavy sinking phase. From the decisions of United Nation Environmental Programme ( UNEP ) yearbook, a rounded figure of US 50 dollars fish stocks have been depleted. The Amazon militants and newsmans have given their analysis on about 80 per centum of the lumber woods being sold illicitly for personal additions under the cloaked name of globalization. The increasing industrial activities and mill mercantile establishments have created mayhem in the nearby vicinity parts and the rivers and lakes in the locality. Excess toxic wastes and chemicals gets drained out onto the lands and the H2O beginnings. As a conseque nce of this toxic secernments, the birthrate of the evidences are lost and it penetrates onto the interior parts of Earth through crannies and holes. Thus the H2O table gets affected and the deeper roots of elephantine trees and workss sucks the venom into it doing great problem in the full nutritionary rhythms and nutrient concatenation. When surface run away and dirty eroding occurs, the chemicals flows onto the rivers and its feeders bring forthing pandemonium and confusion to the fish stocks and marine workss. The vaporization procedure absorbs these harmful and unhealthy toxicant chemical substances onto the ambiance. The rain when occurs causes acerb showers and throw outing of unsafe gases onto the surface of the Earth ‘s beds. Many of these imbalanced rhythms have contributed to the climatic alterations and thaw of polar ice caps thereby deluging the low prevarication parts. Ozone depletions and noxious gases have still been hot subjects in the immediate hereafter. Geneticss have been another field that has brought in greater danger in the present scenario. Though it has played an of import lead function in globalization and its effectual steps by raising improved assortments of cowss and stock, giving better quality harvests, bring forthing healthy and immune strain of animate beings and workss, genetically modified and reengineered merchandises for the nutriment and proper consumption of food enriched nutrient stuffs, it has besides displayed itself as a necessary immorality. Better assortments of harvests and strains of cowss are produced by unreal techniques and methods of cross genteelness and genetically modifying the venereal parts of farm animal. Disease immune and pest immune assortments of harvests and related types have tonss of preservatives and chemicals added onto it to give the excess juicy and juicy visual aspect, which are excessively harmful for the normal metabolic activities to be carried on the human organic structure if co nsumed above optimal bounds. Nowadays Kentucky Fried Chicken ( KFC ) , wallopers and dual beef pattie Burgers have invariably filled the shops, eating houses and bakeshops. Peoples are so addicted to the debris nutrient that there is no manner to do them gain the injury it can do to their delicate tegument and organic structure. The heavy dosage of Calories that gets added onto the organic structure can do unsafe wellness jeopardies like fleshiness, chronic rise in blood force per unit area, bosom onslaughts, palpitations and nervous dislocations. The fat molecules when deposited around the critical variety meats can do bad and alarming symptoms of organic structure upsets. The intercrossed cowss might bring forth milk, flesh and wool in much higher proportion than normal and original strains. But the milk, flesh and related merchandises will be full of injected endocrines and unsafe equalizers. It is non the measure that has to be counted and taken into history, but the quality and wellness parametric quantities. Pollution has been yet another factor that has created jobs for the people. Excess gas emanations, car exhaustions, expulsion of CFCs and toxic chemicals onto the surface of the air causes respiratory upsets and rhinal obstructions. The ruddy list has cited an dismaying figure of hot spots all around the universe. Rare and last of some of the acute species have gone nonextant due to the high degrees of human intercessions and incursion onto the natural home grounds and homes of the aggregation of species. The chief problem occurs when a peculiar strain of species wholly vanishes from the Earth. There is no agencies to convey it back onto the surface once more into full strength. Therefore the best option is to protect and continue the last endurances and invariably work for its maintainance and upbringing. One would n’t cognize the true values of an plus until otherwise it is to the full gone from the visibleness of our eyes. Therefore do the maximal effectual use of resources without doing injury to their reconciliation rhythms and its ego capacity to refill itself. Hence globalization has brought about tonss of positive results but at the same clip created mayhem and upset on the other terminal. Clear cut thoughts and its execution is yet an art that has to be handled and practised by the universe and its dwellers for the well being of the hereafter and the effects to follow. If one does make an issue, he is to the full responsible and apt to endure the effects that are to follow by his/her workss. It has played a really of import function in the devastation and desolation of the biotic militias and its profusion. Decision Globalization is a true and positive step that has made a immense impact on the full collection of the universe as a incorporate Earth. The effects and steps of its deductions and scheduling hold brought about tonss of benefits to the universe as an economic system. Peoples have gone frontward into believing earnestly about the whole thought of globalizing the universe due to the increased opportunities of benefit factors and the idea of a better universe has made them travel for it. Every facet has a positive portion and a negative portion. The positive side is that it has lead to liberalization of trade, made technological promotions, built, stronger cross boundary line dealingss, harmonised the economic systems despite of civilizations dazes, communicating barriers, age and gender prejudice, category disparities and rich hapless inequalities. Globalisation as in itself is a cardinal standards spread outing and widening its roots onto newer and fresher facets of better opportunity and alteration factors and looks frontward for advanced thoughts and chances. The negative side is that the basic nature of globalization is that whoever stands on its manner is removed and destroyed in the procedure of promotion. Tourism and economic development

Abstract The paper looks at the relationship between tourism and economic development through a holistic lens. It was found that tourism leads to economic development in host nations through job creation, the multiplier effect, infrastructure development and improvement of business conditions.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Tourism and economic development specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More In certain circumstances, however, tourism may undermine economic development through tax increments, inequality, inflation pressure and environmental problems. Economic development also sustains tourism by taming foreign exchange fluctuations, enhancing the cost of living, creating a sustainable business environment and offering high quality goods and services for tourists. Since tourism and economic development are codependent, it was suggested that governments should promote tourism in order to foster economic development. I nvestors and government bodies should also work on their economies in order to create a sustainable business environment for tourism. Introduction Tourism contributes to the GDP of developing and developed nations tremendously. Stakeholders need to know how this occurs in order to increase its effects. On the flipside, the success of tourist activities also depends on the economic situation of a country, so governments need to work on this aspect, as well. How tourism translates into economic development Tourism increases revenues earned in a country. For instance, if a country receives approximately 1000 tourists who spend $ 100 daily, then the country could enjoy $100,000 increases in daily revenue. If the country can sustain that expenditure over 3 months, then it can enjoy approximately $9,000,000 worth of revenue over that period.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? However, since businesses need to purchase imported supplies then perhaps 30% of those earnings would be used to offset that income. The remaining percentage remains in the country and facilitates creation of tourism jobs or profits enjoyed by entrepreneurs. Therefore, a country would develop its economy if it invested in the tourism industry (Stynes 3). Aside from direct revenues, there is multiplier effect that arises from tourism as an economic activity. After receiving the above mentioned amount of revenue, tourist employees in the concerned country will use the amount they earned from wages and salaries to purchase services and goods. As a consequence, more businesses in the nation will benefit from the tourist activities. Jobs will also be created for those individuals selling goods and services to employees in the tourist industry. Therefore, one dollar earned i n revenue from tourism leads to a multiplier effect of more jobs and sales in other industries. UNEP (421) explain that tourism allows countries to harness their cultural heritage, natural landscape, and biodiversity in order facilitate development. It is through this platform that countries can convert what they are endowed with into tangible employment opportunities. Since tourism relies on labor quite intensively, then this can provide an opportunity for disadvantaged groups or the unemployed to become entrepreneurs. This is an industry in which micro enterprises thrive; making handicrafts, jewelry and other small commodities is synonymous with it.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Tourism and economic development specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Products of tourism span across a wide array of industries ranging from transport, infrastructure, agriculture, energy to art. Consequently, financial benefits can spr ead across different areas of the economy. Tourism also manifests itself in the form of improved investment in facilities like roads, energy and water supply. Before tourists can visit any nation, they need access to it through airports. Tourist-dependent nations often have many air transport hubs. Furthermore, those visitors will expect to enjoy certain basic comforts such as street lights, good sever systems, and good roads. While these amenities may be prevalent in developed nations, the same is not true for underdeveloped ones. Countries interested in growing their tourism industry will need to build their infrastructure. The effects of these endeavors will trickle down to other members of the society. Whole populations can utilize these facilities and thus improve their quality of life. With regard to the poverty cycle, this industry employs the youth and women in large numbers thus fostering independence. In fact, many households are able to break out of the poverty cycle owin g to their participation in tourism. Several authors have carried out case studies on the benefits of tourism in the economy by analyzing their effects on particular countries. Proenca and Soukiazis (200) did an investigation in Portugal concerning the relationship between bed capacity and regional economic growth. Here, it was assumed that bed capacity was indicative of the intensity of tourism in a region. The researchers found that for every percentage increase in accommodation capacity, regions experienced a 0.01% in their per capita income.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Conversely, one can prove that tourism enhances economic development by analyzing the rate at which countries depend on tourism over other areas of the economy. Lanza and Pigliaru (12) showed that countries with many natural resources and a sizable labor force gave them a comparative advantage in tourism over others that did not have these resources. When one contrasts countries that have these features and focus on tourism to countries that specialize in manufacturing, it is evident that the former countries grow their economies at a faster rate than the former ones. Therefore, tourism performs better than other conventional industries with regard to its capacity to grow economies. The same pattern is repeated when one compares small nations that depend on oil production with large ones that depend on tourism. Most of the oil-producing nations come from large economies; small countries of ten record low levels of growth, but when this is combined with specialization in tourism, one is likely to record higher levels of GDP growth. Therefore, tourism facilitates greater levels of economic growth for small economies (Ivanovi and Webster 22). The same observation is not prevalent in large economies that are already developed even though tourism thrives there. Therefore, several factors that demonstrate the existence of a robust tourism industry eventually lead to higher economic growth. The prevalence of higher economic growth amongst these small, tourism-dependant nations stems from their use of foreign exchange earnings to offset their balance of payment. They also use the same revenue for management of their national debt. It is easy to translate these payments into sizable economic returns because the economies of scale are small for such nations. It is also easy for these countries to take some of their foreign exchange and use it to import resources and capital. As a result, net increases in their economies will be high. Tourists require certain goods when they visit target countries. Sometimes this may lead to an increase in the choices available to local consumers. If the goods happen to be of a high quality, then local producers may be prompted to enhance production. Higher competition increases economic outcomes and thus prosperity in the country. It is possible for taxes to reduce owing to tourist activities. If a country or region heavily depends on tourism, it may tax tourism-dependent businesses heavily and reduce the amount it expects to get from other local businesses. As a result, local communities may benefit from the development of roads or schools without necessarily paying a high amount of tax. It should, however, be noted that sometimes the reverse may occur. If infrastructural needs required to cater for tourism are excessive, then locals may experience greater taxation. Regardless of the latter, one can still acknowledge tha t tourism may benefit an economy by improving the tax rates (Stynes 4). Generally, one may understand the effect of tourism on the economy through a theoretical model known as the export-led growth hypothesis. In this theory, economies of nations grow as a result of increased export, capital and labor within a country. Exports are particularly useful to countries interested in growing because they allow them to take advantage of economies of scale (Lim 70). International businesses do not have to depend on local communities for production as they can distribute production across a myriad of regions. This leads to cost savings and greater profitability. Export expansion also leads to greater economic development through technical knowledge diffusion. Those concerned will get access to greater expertise and this promotes the growth of economic activities. It is likely that when a country does more exporting than importing, then chances are that there will be greater competition among those concerned. Since tourism is a form of export, then this explains why the activity fosters economic growth (Risso and Brida 178). Economic development leads to tourism Not only does tourism lead to economic development but the reverse may also be true; economic development fosters tourism. As an industry, tourism is unique from conventional understandings of what an industry is. In economics, for an activity to become an industry, it must employ the factors of production, such as land, labor, and capital, in order to make products. It must also use certain variables in order to participate in the production process. The major problem with this approach is that it does not factor in service-oriented sectors, of which tourism belongs. The latter industry heavily relies on labor and offers services to a number of foreign and domestic economies. Tourism incorporates the use of goods and services in order to meet needs of clients. Nonetheless, production and consumption still occur when participating in tourism. Visitors who enter a certain country will do so for business or pleasure. Those who come for leisure will solely consume while those who visit a country for business will consume as well as produce. Therefore, one cannot classify tourism as an explicit production or consumption good. Another feature that distinguishes tourism from other sectors is the fact that consumers must transport themselves to the concerned location and not the other way around. Conventional sectors like manufacturing often involve taking conventional products to consumers. This means that it can be regarded as an import in certain dimensions. However, because of the foreign exchange earned, the industry is also an export one. All these differences in tourism as an industry imply that its contribution to the economy of a country or region is quite multifaceted. Regardless of how one looks at the industry, it still depends on economic development as a prerequisite to success (Vane gas and Croes 960). Globalization has infiltrated almost all industries and tourism is no exception. Since transportation cost is an important consideration for most visitors who are thinking about entering a country, then they must incorporate the amount of expenditure that is required to get to a host country. This means that if the income of potential tourists is low, then chances are that less travelling will occur. For an economy to grow in a country that depends on tourism, it must depend on visitors from countries with relatively stable income streams. Therefore, economic development in target countries (nations that act as consumers) can foster tourism. Unlike certain consumer goods that can be sold in any country regardless of its income, tourism will sell greatly in economically developed nations as these consumers have the financing needed to enjoy tourist activities. Additionally, because the industry is perceived as a luxury in certain respects, then the concerned entit ies must be able to afford luxurious items. This further proves that economic development affects tourism because consuming countries must be economically prosperous (Ghartey 5). Prices of commodities and services in a host country affect how many visitors it gets. Additionally, even the cost of living in a country will alter the number of people who come to visit. Economic difficulties will usually manifest themselves in terms of a high cost of living. Additionally foreign exchange rates will also demonstrate how economically prosperous the country is. Potential tourists will consider these factors before choosing to visit it. Consequently, not only is economic development a prerequisite to success in tourism in countries that supply the visitors, but it also matters in the host country. Certain services are just easier to provide if the economic situation in the tourist country is tenable. As explained earlier some travelers may visit a host country for business while others may d o it for pleasure. Those who target a country for its business prospects will often end up using various businesses in the tourism industry. International trade is becoming a reality especially in emerging economies such as China and India. The need to transact with these countries fosters business travel and foreign exchange earnings. Therefore, countries with a robust trading platform have high numbers of business travelers and high earnings in tourism. Such nations will usually report positive economic figures and balance of payments. As a result, one may say that economic development, as seen through high rates of international trade, leads to a thriving tourism industry (Fayissa et al. 18). The sustainability of tourism is highly dependent on investment in economic activities. Pro development tourism is an approach to tourism that entails securing economic development for locals in order to make tourism sustainable. In order to prosper in any industry, businesses have to engage in practices that attract consumers. The same fact is true for tourism and potential visitors. This industry is highly dependent on employees that are highly educated. It also thrives in areas that have convenient access to health services as well as a sound energy, transport, communications and water networks. Not only do tourists expect to enjoy these benefits but locals also stand to gain from them. Developers, operators, hotel owners and investors need to embrace the fact that risks and opportunities abound in tourism, and investment in the economy will lead to greater prosperity within the chosen country. If these business players respond to the economic needs of the local community then they will continually meet tourist expectations about the condition of their locations. As a result, such companies can enjoy repeat business and long term success (Goodwin et al. 6). Working on the economic situation of a certain locality works for investors in tourism because it will improve the business environment. If all the business stakeholders in a tourist destination work together in order to boost economic development, then they will minimize the cost of doing business in that destination. These stakeholders will gain access to benefits that they initially would have foregone if they were acting alone. Business entities can also benefit from sustainable tourism if they invest in the economy of the host nation by creating a standard that they abide by. These individuals will have compliance guidelines that will assist in maintaining high industry standards and eventually greater returns. Industry stakeholders who take charge of their economic environment will also minimize the risk of legislations and interventions by national bodies that may disrupt or run them out of business. As a result, one can assert that tourism is dependent on economic development owing to the business environment created and the prospects for sustainability (Kim et al. 920). Investing i n regional or local economies through infrastructure, local sourcing and employment opportunities enhances the image or brand value of a certain organization. The concept of reputation risk is closely associated with the latter statement. Reputational risk management involves providing consumers with more than tangible aspects of business. For instance the experience of most tourists is much richer than what can be offered as transport, accommodation or even sightseeing. Further, products obtained by tourist players go beyond what businesses manage within the supply chain. As a consequence, tourist investors can increase their brand image or minimize business risk by improving economic conditions in their localities. Fostering local economies by businesses also makes the tourist landscape work well for stakeholders because it fosters goodwill among the masses. When locals enjoy a greater livelihood as a result of investment by tourism stakeholders then they will support the very exi stence of the business. Thriving tourist businesses cannot exist in environments where local communities are resentful against them (Dritsakis 310). It is quite expensive to work in a place where protests and demonstrations against a certain institution are common. Businesses can prevent the occurrence of this situation by working on the local economies of their tourist locations. Tourism is dependent on economic development because the industry will have a stable pool of employees from which to hire their staff. Good economies tend to have highly motivated workers who go out of their way to educate themselves and enhance their skills. Consequently, companies that work on the economies of their local operations will benefit from it by having high quality staff to select. They will also reduce costs in continually hiring and training new staff. Inequality: who really benefits Although economic development is highly likely amongst countries that have a thriving tourism industry, there are certain situations in which economic development may not be felt by all concerned parties. For instance, hotel owners benefit greatly from tourism activities because most accommodation businesses are created for these entrepreneurs. In a country such as Malaysia where tourism contributes a large share of the GDP, only 11% of the earnings from this sector reach locals and small businesses. Additionally, crafts artisans only access 5% of those earnings. Most of the income goes to large hotel owners and similar entrepreneurs (TPRG 12). Cases of inequality or poor distribution of wealth depend on the nature of the economy in a certain country as well as its business structure. For instance, a country such as Tanzania has more imports than exports. Therefore, even a smaller portion of income from tourism is enjoyed by locals compared to Malaysia. 10.2 % of all earnings generated in tourism are captured by members of this demographic group. Tanzania mostly gets its tourism supplies e xternally; additionally, quality staff members also come from other countries. This prevents locals from participating in creation of wealth. In contrast to the above mentioned examples, a country such as Panama manifests a very different pattern. About 56% of all earnings from tourism in this country are enjoyed by locals with moderate means. However, the proportion of the people who enjoy it are those who come from tourism-dependent regions. Poor people in Bocas del Toro enjoy about 43% of the income because this a tourist region. However only 19% of the income earned from tourism in Chriqui province goes to the poor because the economy of that region does not depend on it. Therefore, the case for economic equality from tourism in many developing nations depends on a series of factors. First, supply chains need to incorporate the locals. Further, skill levels and the composition of the labor market will determine whether tourism would lead to greater benefit among the poor than am ong other groups. Additionally, one must consider the composition of the entrepreneurial sector; if microenterprises thrive in a certain country then chances are that locals will also benefit (Mitchell and Ashley 77). Some unwanted economic effects While tourism may cause increases in the rate of consumption of goods, sometimes this may lead to unwanted effects. For instance, external sourcing of supplies needed for use in the tourism industry may lead to an imbalance in the imports and exports of a country. Nations that lack the resources necessary to support visitors may witness higher levels of importation occurring due to an increase in tourism. Earnings from tourism activities may not be enough to offset the imbalance in trade that has arisen from the purchase of imported commodities. Additionally, when excessive numbers of tourists are reported within a certain country, then a country’s tour operators or other related businesses may not be able to meet the demand for se rvices and goods from them. The overall result is high inflation pressure, which may persist over the years. Economies of these countries may become casualties of unmet demand in tourism (Ghartey 8). Inflationary pressures may also manifest in the housing industry through fluctuating prices seasonally. The challenge of tourism in economic development may also be manifested through taxation. In developing economies, where infrastructural challenges are many, governments may need to invest in construction of roads and the like in order to promote the tourism industry. The process of carrying out these activities may result in greater levels of taxation during construction. In developed nations, high infrastructural costs may stem from greater taxation needed to cover the service costs of maintaining these amenities. Therefore, sometimes greater tourism levels may undermine economic performance within a certain country owing to taxation increments (Stynes 5). Environmental issues have also been cited as another unwanted effect of tourism. This may often result in the underdevelopment of other industries that depend on the same natural resources. As a consequence, economic development may be impeded. Most tourism activities occur in coastal areas where freshwater is absent or the facilities needed to provide them are lacking. Since tourist businesses cannot compromise on the availability of water, many of them may secure it through any means necessary. This may result in appropriation of water needed for agricultural use. A case in point was golf tourism in a Mediterranean Island. The concerned industry needed water for irrigation of the courses. Since water was scarce in the location, it was necessary to transport it in. Estimates indicate that the golf course used seventeen times as much water as regular users. After the owners of the golf courses decided to expand the facility, it was necessary to construct them over agricultural land. This was done in order to place desalination plants, which convert salty water into freshwater. Therefore, the growth of tourism in the Island came at a price; agriculture was undermined in the area and this offset the economic benefits of the gold course. One can thus assert that the unwanted environmental of tourism weaken critical economic activities. The economic sustainability of tourism may thus be questioned (UNEP 417). Conclusion Tourism and economic development are intertwined as they each depend on each other for survival. Tourism can lead to economic development through direct and indirect effects. Direct effects include revenue generation and foreign exchange in a tourist-dependent country. These effects also include creation of business opportunities that thrive on money earned from tourism or local sourcing of supplies. Indirect effects include better taxation, employment opportunities, improved infrastructure and better quality of goods. On the other hand, tourism may undermine economic devel opment by creating environmental problems, higher taxation in infrastructure construction and inequality in income distribution. Economic development also leads to success in tourism by proving better quality goods, improving foreign exchange rate conditions and promoting the sustainability of business in that location. These results indicate that government bodies as well as tourist stakeholders need to work on economic development in order to foster long term success. Conversely, governments need to encourage tourism in order to boost economic development. 6 Things Almost All Writers Get Wrong When Self-Editing

6 Things Almost All Writers Get Wrong When Self-Editing 6 Things Almost All Writers Get Wrong When Self-Editing Lisa Lepki is the Editor of the ProWritingAid blog. A word nerd, she loves the technical elements of writing almost as much as the writing itself. In this post, she reveals a few of the most common editing mistakes that authors make.As an editor, I see writers making the same mistakes over and over again.I’m not talking about narrative or character development here. I’m talking about the technical elements of your text, like sentence construction and word choice. Almost all editors are happy to help you with the meaty parts of your writing, like dialogue and structure, but they get frustrated if they see common rookie mistakes.Believe me, more than one publishing professional has chucked a manuscript in the recycling bin based solely on amateur mistakes like overuse of passive voice or over-reliance on adverbs. Here are six ways that I have seen writers go wrong:1. They try to edit as they writeThe creative part of your brain - that’s in charge of imagining your scenes, conceiving your characters and telling your story -   is very different to the part of your brain you use to edit. Going back and forth between the two of them will make you lose momentum - a key reason why many writers never finish their book.Don’t worry about analyzing every word as you go along. Don’t beat yourself up if you use a clichà © to get an idea across while you are in creative mode. It’s not even a problem if you â€Å"tell† rather than â€Å"show†, as long as you get your story out of your brain and onto the page. All of those issues are easy to fix when you go back and edit. So, for your first draft, just let the words flow. Give yourself the freedom to use the wrong words and have faith that you will be able to go back and find the right ones in due course. "6 Mistakes Authors Make When They Self-Edit" from Lisa Lepki of @ProWritingAid 2. They try to do everything at onceThere is a common problem among writers called â€Å"terrible second-half syndrome,† or TSHS. Okay, I just made that term up, but I promise it’s a thing - because I have done it myself.Somewhere in the depths of my hard drive, there is a manuscript I completed about twelve years ago. This was my first major piece of writing and I was delighted with it! Life got in the way and so I never really did anything with it, but I found it again last year. It had a serious case of TSHS. The first chapter was perfectly crafted, full of powerful imagery and compelling scenes. The second chapter was not quite as well-polished, and then it just went downhill from there. The last chapter didn’t even really make sense! Sound familiar?I see this a lot. Writers start their self-edit full of vigor. They painstakingly assess every word and every construction†¦ and then they begin to lose interest.I get it. Editing can be pretty frustrating ( i.e. boring) if you are more creatively inclined. So, instead of trying to get every element perfect on your first round, I recommend working on one issue at a time. For example, your first round might be Adverb Annihilation:We think the problem began when the company did not produce enough tubes for the experiment. These sentences both say the same thing, but the first one is full of clutter. Here are the problem areas:â€Å"It is our opinion that† is a much more convoluted way of saying, â€Å"We think†.  It is redundant to say that something â€Å"first began†. The word â€Å"began† already means â€Å"first†.You can replace â€Å"due to the fact that† with the much simpler â€Å"when†.â€Å"A sufficient amount of† is a cluttered way of saying â€Å"enough†.Tubes are always hollow, which means that the word â€Å"hollow† is redundant. The passive voice means â€Å"the company† is right at the end of the s entence, delaying its meaning and lessening clarity. We’re not suggesting that you dumb your writing down. We just want your ideas to come across as clearly as possible and if that means cutting back on prepositional phrases, so be it. If readers have to spend time (and brain power) trying to make sense of your language, then they may miss something critical.6. They don’t take time awayOnce you finish your first draft, you need to step away. It’s nearly impossible to evaluative your writing when it’s fresh. You know the idea that you meant to get across, and so you see it in your words... even if it isn’t there! The other benefit of moving into editing mode is that it gives your creative brain a break. Spending a couple weeks copy-editing will allow you to return to your story refreshed. You’ll be able to see those plot holes with fresh eyes.Want to learn more practical self-editing techniques? Why should we care about child poverty in the uk Essay

Why should we care about child poverty in the uk - Essay Example According to Burns(2013)â€Å"In terms of local authorities, Tower Hamlets in London had the highest levels of child poverty, with 42% of children growing up in poverty†. Being developed nation child poverty indicates the incompetence and inefficiency of United Kingdom in the eyes of world. As per Save the Children (2012)â€Å"In Britain today there are a shocking 1.6 million children living in severe poverty†. A nation with comprehensive government agenda and public health policy need to give much attention to health and quality of living of young generation in their country. Child poverty in UK also shows the low wages of its citizen. As per BBC(2012)â€Å" A child is considered to be living in poverty if their household income is less than 60% of averages wages†. So child poverty is a matter of significance as it is a call to the nation for the alteration of policies of public health and welfare of a nation. Child poverty in UK is a subject to be pondered about as it is a concern for the future development of the country. Child poverty is a serious factor which afflicts the health and wellbeing of a child. When a child is mentally and physically impoverished, then the education of the child and his personality is in question. According to (Save the children)â€Å"Malnutrition is the underlying cause of at least a fifth of maternal mortality and more than a third of child deaths globally†. The poverty steals away nourishment, health, living status and education from a child. A child without education is a weakest link of a nation, society and family. So child poverty in UK is a serious issue. As per Barnardos(2013) â€Å"There are currently 3.6 million children living in poverty in the UK†. Child poverty is a shame on the economic status of a nation. If a child is not protected by government, then the country has no authentic responsibility towards its nation.

Motivation Theories in Project Management

Motivation Theories in Project Management In this assignment I will present my views about some motivation theories and how they can be applied or not applied when running in a project mode Introduction About Societe Generale Albania Banking sector continues to be one of the most important economic sectors and one of the most rapid growing businesses in Albania in the last 10 year (Bank of Albania, 2010, www.bankofalbania.org). Societe Generale Albania, previously named Banka Popullore, started its activity on 1st of Mars 2004. In 18th of April 2007, Societe Generale Group acquired 75.01% of the shares of this bank. The bank has its head office in Tirana and is present allover Albania with 41 operation branches. At the end of 2009, the bank had 379 employees, both Albanian and French nationality (Annual Report 2009, 2010, www.societegenerale.al). About the case study Being on the most important economic sectors has created enough space for operation of 17 Banks in a relatively small market like Albania. With such a high competition it is very important that banks stay always in line with economic developments and react fast toward customer needs for new products or adaptation. Our bank is quite small and there are frequently high pressures for sharing resources in order to complete in time and with budget different operational or business initiatives. These needs has made mandatory for bank management to apply a matrix organizational design in our organization. Such organizational structure are quite complex when it comes to management and control of staff performance, as they bring the employee in front of two managers, the department manager and the project manager. Now days project management is becoming a key component of the success for eveyr organization in any sector and such the motivation of employees working in projects is of a great interest for both the project manager, as the main beneficiary, and the organization. There a lot of researches and studies for motivation in standard organizational structure, but the topic is considered as less explored when it comes to project management (Dwivedula and Bredillet, 2009). Theories of motivations Motivation is the driving force within individuals that compels them physiologically and psychologically to pursue one or more goals to fulfill their needs or expectations, (Lam and Tang, 2003, p. 61). Why do managers need motivation? If we agree that an output of motivation is control, than we may say that a manager needs motivation to make people do the things he wants and stop doing the things There are currently a lot of theories to explain the nature of motivation and help mangers on addressing it according to their needs. These theories do not conflict between them, which means the manager can use any of them or even combine them. In my assignments I will be focused in 2 theories; The hierarchy of needs as the most first one and most well known by all kind of managers and The dual-structure theory since it was developed based on a research on engineers and accounts, which is about the same environment and employee nature as in my bank. The Hierarchy of Needs This is one of the most well know need theories of motivation and was developed by Abraham Maslow in 1940. According to this theory the needs are organized in 5 main groups of needs that stay together in the form of a pyramid (Maslow, 1943): Physiological Needs; they stay in the bottom of the pyramid and include the basic needs of every human been such as: the need for food, drink, education, medical care, etc. Every organization can provide these needs by providing good working condition and a salary to their employees. Security Needs; includes the need for feeling safe and secure, having a secure job, having a home and a future. The organization can satisfy these needs by offering job continuity, health and retirement plans. Belongingness Needs; includes the needs of humans to love and be loved, to be accepted by others, to take and give friendship. Most of this needs get satisfied by the family ties, but this is not enough since we spend a considerable time of our life in our works. Managers and direct supervisors can play a significant role to satisfy these needs by encouraging the work in group, enhance their communication with employees and provided basis for social interaction between employees. Esteem Needs; the needs of this group in be divided into two major needs, the need for self respect and the need for being respected by others. The organizations and managers can satisfy this by job title, awards, recognition of merits, benefits etc. Self-Actualization Needs; is the highest level of the hierarchy and includes the need we have to be the one we want to be in order to be self fulfilled. If all the other levels of the hierarchy are fully satisfied, it does not remain a lot for the managers to do to satisfy this need, all they need to take care off is make sure the individual has a challenging job and that other needs in lower level become deficient. According to the theory the needs of each level should be satisfied before going to the next level until we reach the self-actualization needs, however if during our road to the top of hierarchy, a lower level of need become deficient again the individual returns to that level (Moorhead and Griffin, 1995). Despite the fact that the theory is well recognized among many organization and managers due to the intuitive logic and easy understanding, the theory is not fully validated either by Maslow or any other research, in contrary many deficiencies have been identified (Wahba and Bridwell, 1976) It is important to mention that the most basic needs are provided by the top management of an organization and more we go up in the hierarchy of needs more we go down in the level of management responsible to satisfy these needs and turn them in motivator for improving job performance. The Dual-Structure Theory The theory was developed by Herzberg on late 1950s based on a research with a couple of hundred engineers and accounts (Herzberg, 1968). The finding of this research proved that different set of factors were connected with different feelings about work. The motivation of an employee goes in a two step process, first satisfying the employee (eliminate any factor which may bring dissatisfaction) by hygiene factors and second go with motivation factors. The motivation factors would result at the end with satisfied and motivated employees who can have a long term and positive job performance. The combination of these factors can set employee in four situations (Herzberg, 1987): Satisfied and motivated employee. The target situation for having the best performance. Satisfied but not motivated. The manager should find the way to apply motivation factors and change the status; otherwise the de-motivated employee will bring low productivity and bad quality. Not satisfied but motivated. The company should change its policies and rules and try to change the situation. An employee is not expected to stay to long in this status. Not satisfied and not motivated. The worst situation, both company and managers have a lot to do. These employees will bring to the business apart from the low productivity and bad quality a lot of complains, strikes, no communication. The hygiene factors, when they exist are in placed by the company strategy and/or governments rules and they are not directly related to the performance and ability of anybody. In opposite with them, the employee can get the motivation factors only by his involvement and his work. (McCrimmon, 2008). The theory has been analyzed more than any other theory in the field of organizational behavior (Pinder, 1998) and the results are quite contradictory. Studies and researchers which use the same method support the theory, other ones criticize it for the research population used, which is limited only to accountants and engineers, for not taking into account the individual differences, since a motivation factor can depend individual age and/or organizational model (House and Wigdor, 1967). Herzbergs theory states that money does not motivate employees but only satisfies them (Herzberg, 1968), due to this statement the theory is widely discussed and analyzed in studies and researches about the rewarding and motivation (Beel, 2007).The rewords supporters are totally against it and they say it does not have evidences to prove that money is not a motivation. Another aspect of critics is the fact that the theory does not take in consideration the circumstances, what does motivate an employee today, not necessary satisfy and motivate another one tomorrow (Robbins, 2005). Visual presentation of the dual structure theory (http://www.tutor2u.net/business/people/motivation_theory_herzberg.asp, Nov 2010) Motivation in Project management PRINCE2 manual defines a project as: a management environment that is created for the purpose of delivering one or more business products according to a specified business case. Another definition is: a temporary organisation that is needed to produce a unique and pre-define outcome or result at a pre-specified time using pre-determined resources. Being a temporary organization and with specific targets, the project organization is a more complex structure than a normal organization unit and different rules and practices are applied in every aspect of organizational behavior, including motivation. In 2008, our bank started a project for migration of existing core banking system into a new and modern one as part of the group strategy for mutualization of IT services. The project team was composed by more than twenty employees coming from different departments and sectors, covering many different positions such as; translators, business analysts, IT developers, organization and even a public relationship specialist. We knew since the beginning that such a challenging and multidimensional project could not succeed without a motivated team. Why do we need motivated staff? Is motivation the only factor for having a good performance? Conclusion Projects by definition are a temporary organization, this automatically excludes some motivation techniques which become irrelevant due to the time required to give their effects. What should we do? Should we leave motivation only to be applied in standard organizational structure?

Clinton Climate Change Initiative Program in Australia and the Progress of Barangoo Waterfront Development Project in Sydney so Far

Climate change has come to be one of the issues that have had far-reaching implications for the world in which we live. As people who are proud of our heritage and who need to live a fulfilling life, we need to do a lot more to fight climate change. For it is clear that unless something is done and done fast enough then this dear homeland of ours will be no more in a matter of several years (Pittock 2003). Therefore, my appeal is to all Australians to work hard to make the earth a good, safe place to live in not just today but also for generations to come. The way to go is to conserve our environment – to reduce carbon emission as far as possible as to date climate change is largely attributed to the rapid increase in the amount of carbon in the atmosphere in different forms. The Clinton Foundation has been in the forefront in this fight against climate change (The Clinton Foundation 2010). It has initiated many projects in the country to ensure that carbon emission is reduced. The Clinton Climate Change Initiative Program is a typical climate change program that is aimed at helping this country achieve its goal of becoming greener.Through the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI), the Clinton foundation aims at working with the government to provide greener sources of energy, counter carbon emissions by using renewable energy sources in homes and offices, and reducing organic waste through use of recycled material (The Clinton Foundation 2010). It also seeks to create avenues for absorption of large quantities of carbon such as forests. The target is greenhouse emitters which range from industrial emissions through domestic energy sources to wasteful use of material or careless dumping.Working jointly with C40, CCI seeks to see cities greener and cleaner (The Clinton Foundation 2010). Through the Greener Government Buildings Program, CCI targets to make reduce the use of applications in government buildings which emit greenhouse gases. Reduced use of energy a nd reuse is a point of emphasis (Freestone 2010). All of us ought to seek to visit the Clinton Foundation’s official website and its other information resources to be better placed to work jointly with it to ensure we live in a safer and greener country. It is upon us all to work alongside CCI to make climate change less affective of our lifestyles. Now is the time for every Australian to do something that will count towards curbing adverse climate change. For this is for our own good. It is for us and for posterity. The more we conserve and preserve now, the more secure we make our future and the future of our children after us (The Clinton Foundation 2010). The Clinton Climate Change Initiative Program is currently running different projects to this effect, with the notable one being the Barangoo Waterfront Development Project in Sydney. This project is a partnership between the Clinton Foundation and the government of New South Wales and aims to create a park in the city of Melbourne’s area of Barangoo so it becomes part of the central business district (The Clinton Foundation 2010). This is a beautification approach that seeks to protect the waterfront of the city center and to capture the emitted carbon so the city is cleaner and greener. Once an inner city, Barangoo is being transformed to become part of the city center and so reduce congestion (Preston & Jones 2006).The main constructions are a headland park and a public domain. So far, work on the headland park has commenced and soon works are going to start for the public domain. The city, one the project is completed, is expected to be literally green with magnificent parks and surrounding blue waters. Magnificent buildings will adorn the nicely shaped harbor to demonstrate just how far collective effects and commitment can change cities for good. Also yet to be completed are a newly created headland park and a very modern waterfront. The headland park is located north of Barangoo (Beatle y 2008).Already done is a foreshore promenade that extends along the harbor and is part of a 14 kilometer foreshore walk joining Anzac Bridge to Woolloomooloo. Under the headland park is a car park that is almost hidden by the greenery. It is expected that the remaining part of the project will carry on to completion soon, to make Sydney a real green city and a demonstration of what being green really is.
